Once she had persuaded doctors that she did have the disease, and then to treat it effectively, she searched another 3 years before she found that she also had a very rare condition called Dercum’s Disease that was a consequence of her lengthy history with Cushing’s Disease. Eileen Radziunas - Director
Eileen is the author of two books: But, Doctor You’re Wrong! and Lupus, My Search For A Diagnosis. She has a B. S. in education from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) with a minor in psychology. She subsequently received a scholarship to Wesleyan University’s Summer Writers Conference. As a child, Eileen had a problem standing. Other problems, such as sores, thought to be a yeast infection, which did not respond to medication, became noticeable in her 30’s. Her multi-decade, cross-country search for a diagnosis which was ultimately found to be a rare disease called “Behcet’s Disease”, involved consultations with over 100 medical specialists. This caused her to realize the frustration and need of those who are ill but who have no diagnosis. She has made advocating for the undiagnosed a priority. In support of that goal she has organized and run support groups for people with chronic illnesses; initiated proclamations to bring local attention to rare diseases; spoke to medical students at Yale about the plight of the undiagnosed; and addressed legislators regarding the need for services --- but, most importantly, she has documented and shared her own personal experience. She and her husband, Ed, have been married for forty years. They are blessed with two daughters and sons-in-law and five grandchildren.
